Sinta and Jojo ‘Keong Racun’ – Indonesian teens become Youtube stars

Sinta and Jojo ‘Keong Racun’ – Indonesian teens become Youtube stars
There’s nothing much to this video really, it’s just two teenage girls from West Java in Indonesia singing along to a Dangdut (Indonesian popular music genre) song by Lisa called Keong Racun - “Poisonous Snail”.

In just a month since going online, the video has attracted more than a million views on Youtube and is still rising in popularity as it consistently trends in the Twitter charts across the globe.

Apparently, the original idea was to upload the video to Facebook, but the file size was too big, so Sinta and Jovita “Jojo” Adityasari ended up putting it on Youtube instead – good move.

The 19-year-olds claim they have already been offered a record contracts which they have turned down because “we know we have no talent.” Silly girls, do they not know that talent is no barrier to entry in commercial music?

They have however agreed to appear in a music video for the band ST12 who will be recording a new version of Keong Racun very soon.

Such has been the fuss about the girls video, even Pramono Anung, the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives in Indonesia has got involved, writing on his Twitter account, “Per your request, I just watched ‘Keong Racun’ and it has cheered me up.”
